Name: Nephenee
Canon: Fire Emblem, specifically the Tellius games, Path of Radiance & Radiant Dawn
Canon Point: Post-Radiant Dawn
Age: 21
History:
Here’s some wiki links for the plots of the two games:
I’ll post a summary here for Nephers too (Also, underlined parts are headcanon, but it is just for fleshing out a few points, for the most part):
Little is known about Nephenee’s history prior to Path of Radiance. Originally from Ohma village, Nephenee lived with her mother and siblings -2 sisters, triplet brothers- and, like the rest of the village, supported her family by tilling the soil and reaping its fruit. Up until the war between Crimea and Daein, her life seems to have been fairly calm aside from her father passing. However, prior to the harvest season one year, Daein suddenly attacked the Crimean capital of Melior, beginning the events of Path of Radiance. In preparation to defend their village, a local militia was put together, which Nephenee joined in order to defend her family and livelihood. It was there that she met fellow villager Brom, who she would serve beside in the Greil Mercenaries later. However, unlike the mercenary group they would serve in later, this militia was quite ill-prepared, as it was put together right after war broke out, and consisted entirely of farmers and villagers, with no experience in battle. It was so ill-prepared, in fact, that we learn that they only learned to stand for role call, had to share equipment, and when they marched, people got lost or fled. But Nephenee and Brom went on, to protect their village.
One fateful day, the militia was engaged by Daein troops, and Nephenee and Brom were helped in some way by the bishop Sephiran (who, in actuality, was the Prime Minister of Begnion, one of Crimea’s allies). However, the three were captured by the enemy, and imprisoned in Canteus Castle, where they stayed until they and another prisoner were rescued by Ike and his band of mercenaries. Meeting with Princess Elincia, they became convicted, and, once assured that their lives would return to normal and they could return to their families, swore to help her take back the throne. Traveling in the band, which later became known as the Crimean Liberation Army, Nephenee fought with her lance and shield and gained battle and life experience, until Ashnard was finally put down, and Elincia became queen of the realm. After the war, she returned to her family, boasting of serving the queen, and fighting under the great Commander Ike.
All was well for several years. Nephenee went back to working the fields of the Crimean countryside, her armor and weapons ever at the ready in case of need. A good thing too, as three years after the country was liberated, a man named Yeardley came to Ohma and stirred the youth of the village, in an attempt to put Ludveck, the duke of Felirae, on the throne. Seeing the crowd and incited youth, Nephenee quickly donned her armor and grabbed war buddy Brom. Together with the thief Heather, they defeated the rebellious youth and Yeardley, and set out to warn Elincia of the impending rebellion, joining back up with Ike eventually to stop it for good, as well the Dawn Brigade not much later, and stopping a corrupt Begnion, then defeating the goddess Ashera with the help of the goddess Yune. After the war ended, Nephenee moved her family to Melior to better serve the Crown and provide for her family, where she continued to protect her country.

As for her time in The Far Shore, Nephenee...didn't do much of note, mostly due to her being more shy and having a hard time coming out of her shell. Certainly, she helped fight off some baddies and did stuff with her shinki, but much of her time was spent in The Near Shore, taking a more direct approach to helping keep people safe and blessing crops. Thankfully for her, only kids and animals really took much notice, but it wasn't that great for coming out of her comfort zone. Since returning to Tellius for a few weeks in game-time, she realized she needed to get better about that, and so she enlisted her friend Calill's help in breaching said comfort zone. The Archsage took to the challenge with gusto, and with coaxing and a lot of tasty rewards, she came out of her shell...well, a bit anyway. Only so much that can be done in such a short time!

Personality:
Shy, dependable, strong: such words undoubtedly describe Nephenee. Originally, she was even more softspoken for fear of being mocked for her strong Southern accent, but in the intervening time, she gained quite a bit of confidence in her speech as she strives to become more refined. This was helped not only by fighting alongside people from far away that didn’t ridicule her for her accent, but also by her friends Brom and Calill, who once was from the country herself. Seeing Calill’s refined mannerisms gave Nephenee the drive to work on herself. After all, if Calill could do it, why couldn’t she? By the time Radiant Dawn rolls around, it’s apparent she has gained quite a bit of confidence in herself, both on the battlefield -her lance impaling the enemy easily, though she gains no pleasure from killing- and off. It’s safe to say, though, that while she has come a long way from the quiet young lady she was in Path of Radiance, she is in no danger of over-confidence any time soon. She still hides her face often, whether with a helmet, or perhaps a hat.

It should be mentioned, however, that the shyness doesn’t apply to the battlefield. Really at all. When she is fighting, the shyness retreats quickly, and she becomes extremely focused, brave, and capable of wiping out enemy after enemy. By the endgame, it is entirely possible for her to take out a full-blown dragon within a few hits. But it should be noted that she really doesn’t enjoy killing. It is a necessary evil in her mind, and she is willing to do what must be done to defeat the enemy and protect her family and country, not to mention Queen Elincia. After the story’s end, she moves her family to the Crimean capital of Melior, both to be close by in the event of trouble, and to provide for her family better, leaving behind her village, but never forgetting them. We also know that unlike her friend Brom, she was always ready to help, and that many times she went back onto the battlefield to protect all she loved.

Tilling the land, they say, builds strength of character, and being the main worker and helping her mother take care of the family has made Nephenee strong and reliable. Quick to help her friends and family, she will defend them at a moment’s notice. Though it’s not to say she enjoys fighting, but she knows it is needed at times- a realistic pacifist, as it were. She is a calm individual, and rarely complains; while Brom complained about the hardships of marches and army rations, she merely shrugged and tells him they will get used to it. Strong of will and brave (in battle motly), she refused to give in to despair during their imprisonment, and was ready to fight shortly after being rescued. This seems to reflect her positive attitude a bit, and she easily reassures those she calls friend, which, despite her introversion, she seems to make quickly. And despite what it seems, she is far from stupid, quickly figuring what to do in battle and practical things. She is a bit ignorant and naive though, having little or no official schooling. What little schooling she does have is either entirely self-taught, or from her parents, so she has about a 5th grade reading level, if that, and a basic knowledge of arithmetic, but not much more on the education of such things. She’s just a simple girl who has farmed for her livelihood, after all.

On that note, Neph demonstrates a lot of dependability and responsibility than one might expect from one her age in the modern era. Most of this seems to come from being forced to grow up very fast in order to help her mother with not just her siblings, but the farm, which is their livelihood. We know ingame that her mother is alone in raising the kids without her there, and this is because her father passed away around 8 years before Radiant Dawn of illness. Suddenly being the eldest child of the family (which is 7 people strong), she quickly took the reins and helped her mother with the farm, and, when she was old enough, taking over many of the duties her father had. While she has the help of her siblings, they are all young, the triplets being 9 as of RD, so she is the primary breadwinner for them, as it were.

Abilities:
  • Lancework - While Nephenee isn't the strongest fighter in the world (she...kind of only knows lances...swords are what she beats up and axes are either used to chop wood or trying to kill her), she is one of the more powerful fighters in the games if she hits her caps as a Sentinel. The class’s description even states “Legendary lancers who stride battlefields with calm and surety.” Even as a Halberdier (where her ‘first’ canon point is), it reads “Distinguished veterans whose service exemplifies military values. They are expert lancers.”, so she’s clearly up there with the best. Whether she’s the best is up for how you interpret things in the games. While she’s best with bladed polearms of a more European origin, she could probably learn more Eastern-style arms, and is decent with a quarterstaff.
  • Farming/country stuff - Up until after the end of RD, Nephenee has lived her whole life in her home village of Ohma, and is a farmer’s daughter through and through. Having been raised as such, she’s grown strong from many years and hours of working the land and the farm, and has learned how to make the ground yield crops reliably, as well as take care of livestock. I figure she also is pretty knowledgeable about plants she’d been in contact with on a regular basis, and flowers/crops in particular...as long as she grew up with them. Something non-European will make her confused more than likely. She’s also good with cooking, sewing, horses, hunting, and ‘country’ stuff in general, though past a certain point it’s very much a ‘jack-of-all-trades, master of none’ idea. Ironically, she’s still a bit unsure of her own background, and still tries to lessen her accent.
  • Strength of mind and body - Being a country girl, she’s grown strong through hard work, both physically and mentally. Physically, she’s pretty capable of lifting other people up with little trouble (including armored folks), and doing heavy labor...almost obscenely strong, really, given her speed with full plate armor on. Said speed also makes it easy to dodge things. Mentally, she’s generally very patient and kind (a necessity when dealing with farming and animals), and stubborn as a rule. This is backed up both with her dialogue, some of which where she doesn’t back away from her duty, even when people from her village jeer and call her and Brom murderers, and when Ashera basically nukes Tellius and turns pretty much all of the continent’s inhabitants to stone, but for...basically the plot bunnies playable characters (they mention only those of strong spirit survived, so your playable units) and some certain enemies/other plot-relevant characters. She’s also brave and extremely loyal.
Strengths: Valiant, Caring, Stubborn, Strong, Steadfast
Weaknesses: Stubborn (double-edged sword), socially-awkward (still), crap self-esteem, tends to be submissive, taking on too much to the point of neglecting her own needs

God/Shinki: God
Why?:
Despite being willing to follow others who are more qualified than her, Nephenee has the makings of a leader in her own right. She took over her family's care when her father passed, bared the burden of serving the crown in two wars, and was the one who brought to attention the machinations against Queen Elincia when the revolts started in Ohma. Even at cost of herself, she's always striven to help others, and wishes only the best for people. She remembers what it's like to go hungry, to be scared, to not know what the next day will bring, and she wants to help alleviate that.
Top 3 Choices:
  • Athena – goddess of wisdom, warfare, town and city defense, courage, strength, strategy, agriculture, reason, and handicraft
  • Radegast – god of hospitality, fertility and crops, war and sun
  • Parvati – goddess of fertility, love, devotion, warrior-goddess, nourishment, grain, family
God Type:
Nephenee has always been the sort to want to help others, despite being fairly shy, whether on the field or off. Even becoming a deity, this will be the case. She prefers to work as a team to defeat a problem (strength in numbers), and she would be happy to help her shinki with prayer requests. In fact, she'll probably try to take on too much...she's been the leader of her family for so long, that she might need to be reminded to delegate or ask for help.

The incident with Ashera screwing Tellius over will help her, though. She's seen what plain logic and no compassion can do, and will want to be someone who won't harm their followers. Steer them in the right direction if they falter, certainly, but she wouldn't want to punish them severely. She has far enough experience with being on the receiving end to do that. This is also a reason that, even as a goddess of 'reason', she won't go crazy as Athena. She's seen what that can do and she doesn't really like the idea of it.

Name: Nephenee
Age: No canon age is given, but she's clearly a young woman in Path of Radiance, and it's three years later for Radiant Dawn, so adding together that, how she appears, and the year or so for each conflict, I figure she's 20 around the end of RD
Canon: Fire Emblem, specifically the Tellius games Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. For ease, I'll refer to these as PoR and RD for most of the rest of the app, respectively.

History:
Here’s some wiki links for the plots of the two games:
I’ll post a summary here for Nephers too (Also, underlined parts are headcanon, but it is just for fleshing out a few points, for the most part):

However, prior to the harvest season one year, Daein suddenly attacked the Crimean capital of Melior, beginning the events of Path of Radiance. In preparation to defend their village, a local militia was put together, which Nephenee joined in order to defend her family and livelihood.

After the war ended, Nephenee moved her family to Melior to better serve the Crown and provide for her family, where she continued to protect her country.

Canon Point:
So her perceived canon point is right after they defeat Yeardley, so she would be on her way to help warn Elincia of the uprising, and would be a Halberdier in her mind. Despite this, she has the Sentinel armor, which is going too confuse her.

Her actual canon point is after the end of RD. So she’s a Sentinel, she’s moved her family to Melior, and THEY SAVED THE WORLD WOO!

Memories:
  • They defeated Ludvek and saved Lucia
  • Ike’s back!
  • She’s a motherfluffing Sentinel and is even better with a lance!
  • The “Dark god” was actually part of Ashera, another goddess named Yune. Also Ashera’s a big jerk.
  • What do you mean everyone’s a statue?! D: (Ashera passed her judgement, and oops the whole continent but for a handful are petrified)
  • She beat up the best Sentinel in Begnion in the Tower of Guidance. This got her a shiny new lance called the Wishblade!
  • Humans and Laguz are descendants of the same species, which makes all the racism between the two even worse.
Material Regains:
  • Her red neckerchief
  • Her Halberdier leggings
  • Herbs. Normally they’re a VERY slight healing item (think painkiller/light heals), but I’m okay with them basically being a salve. Or they can be good in a salad (Renewable)
  • A preserved marigold
  • A simple blue cloak
Basic alignment:
Is “Badass Mostly-Lawful Good Cinnamon Bun That Can Stab You” an alignment? Because it's a good description!

On a more serious note, Nephenee is very much a goody-two-shoes. She tries not to lie unless she has to, does her best to be kind, is extremely loyal as a general rule, and does her best to uphold the laws of the land.

This is where it’s Mostly lawful. Nephenee’s allegiance to her country lies in safeguarding and doing right by the people of the realm, and to the Crown. If, like in the case of Crimea being taken over, the law changes for the worse, she will do what she can to fix it, up to and including helping to take out the regent (but Ashnard was an asshole). She’s not one to blindly follow someone, and this also includes doing things like helping take out the goddess Ashera.

Strengths and Weaknesses:

(As before, underlining is headcanon regarding her history)

Strength-wise, in the realm of physical things, Nephenee is quite strong and fast, able to wear heavy plate armor with little trouble and without sacrificing too much speed, and wielding heavy lances and shields one-handed, compensating for balance and other factors with little trouble. The speed is also helped by some very long legs. Being mostly muscle, she's quite solid, and even without armor she can take a good bit of force before she falls over, so her defense is pretty good even without armor (it's only slightly lower than her strength, number-wise). Her highest stat, however, is definitely her skill, making it easy for her to find and target weak spots in her opponents’ armor. In the same line, intense training has taught her how to hear small noises, notice small details, and generally have good instincts, as well as really good reflexes. As for her noticing things, she’s more likely to notice things that can be a threat or are tied to a threat, including identifying plants and their uses, than other things. She’s no Sherlock.

By the same token, the soldier is fairly experienced in warfare matters like tactics, and has developed a bit of a sixth-sense or ‘battlereadiness’ that stays up most of the time. It’s not perfect, but it keeps her from getting hit most of the time, and focuses her more. She doesn't distract easily when in that mode.

While it’s not clear if she’s had any training before then to drive off predators (I headcanon there was some quarterstaff stuff her father taught her, perhaps, to protect the homestead and livestock), the constant practice in the army helped teach her quickly so she could stay safe and keep her friends and allies protected, and she’s a natural when it comes to the lance (which is to say, most European polearms, as the Lance group in the games spans the Polearm classification) and shield, and using them together. Such is her mastery of them, that she’s a Sentinel and has the highest rank possible for lances at the end of Radiant Dawn. The description of “Legendary lancers who stride battlefields with calm and surety” fits her well in this regard. Her trademark shyness doesn't apply to the battlefield much at all. When she is fighting, the shyness retreats quickly, and she becomes extremely focused, brave, and capable of wiping out enemy after enemy. By the endgame, it is entirely possible for her to take out a full-blown dragon within a few hits.

For non-warfare matters, she’s a good cook and good at most things you’d assume a country girl would be: mending/sewing, farm animals, most things involving farming. If you need things moved or a message run, she’s pretty great for that too.

In mental matters, Nephenee’s wiser than some, despite what it may seem, though it’s the sort of wisdom hammered into you through hard life experience. She’s also extremely tenacious, not liking to give up on anything and doing her best to push through hardships, and has a spirit strong enough to resist petrification by Ashera, with Yune’s help. On that note, Neph demonstrates a lot of dependability and responsibility than one might expect from one her age in the modern era. Most of this seems to come from being forced to grow up very fast in order to help her mother with not just her siblings, but the farm, which is their livelihood. We know in-game that her mother is alone in raising the kids without her there, and this is because her father passed away around 8 years before Radiant Dawn of illness. Even with that, there’s also a slight underlying optimism, despite what she’s seen, though it’s a cautious sort. And in spite of her shyness, she can make friends fairly easily, once they get past the wall she has up, and if you make friends with her? You have someone who will be loyal and steadfast, reliable and trustworthy.

But that brings us to her weaknesses.

The optimism and hope she feels regarding situations does not extend to herself generally, however, nor social situations. Even though she’s come a long way, she’s still shy, more so in uneasy or new situations, and because of her inexperience with social matters, she can be naïve and awkward. The naivety is very much the sort where if she came to trust someone, she could be taken advantage of. There’s also very little self-awareness, considering that despite her being a hero and her good qualities, she still has trouble believing in herself if it’s not specifically related to being a lancer. There’s a bit of fear regarding her strong country accent, which she tends to attempt to tone down out of fear of being mocked, and she hides her face under a helmet in her shyness and belief she’ll be stared at for being plain or worse (even though she’s been told point-blank that she’s quite lovely. What is believing in yourself?). So it can take a bit of work to get past her shell, even though she wants to be friends.

If it’s not obvious by now, worrying is a big thing for her. She’s also not great at things that involve schooling, having maybe a 4th or 5th grade reading level, and no knowledge of any math beyond multiplication/division. It’s not that she’s stupid, but she’s never been to school, and all she knows was self-taught or taught by her parents so she could continue her farming work, or, in the case of the multiplication/division and slightly better reading skills, her needing to learn them for fighting.

In the case of if someone she liked died, she could potentially wall up more, and focus to find their killer, though she’d be hurting for a while. She’s strong, but she’s also from a no-death run, so none of the main group kicked the bucket, which means no friends died.
In the case of someone she liked killing someone…it would depend on a few factors, but there would be a feeling of betrayal, almost assuredly. That would be a bit difficult to get past, I think.

While not an obvious thing, she also has a thing about having her loyalties and values questioned...probably from the whole Duke Ludvek and Yeardley thing. Yes, she wants to get back home to her family and country, but she’s not going to do something crazy to do so. Needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few...or her own needs, moreso.

Skills and Abilities:

Motives:

Nephenee’s the sort that, despite having killed a lot of people on the battlefield, would be hard pressed to take a life in a way that would be murder (i.e. kill an innocent and meaning to). Unlike a certain other Fire Emblem character in a certain other murder game (Ike, we’re looking at you), she’s from after the games (and even where her canon point is, the following is true), and despite her wanting to protect her country and family, she probably wouldn't be easily willing to take a life and doom the others to get back home. There are others who can protect them…

In self-defense or in accident, however…yes. That would be far easier a way to have her kill someone. She wouldn't try to hit anything vital on purpose given the circumstances, but she’s still capable of accidentally doing so in defense.

Sample: [Either link us to a recent thread (within the last six months) that you've done with the character you're apping, or write a brief sample within the game's setting. Either first or third person is acceptable; minimum 200 words.]

Plot Involvement:

Would you prefer that your character be a victim, a culprit, or do you have no preference?

Ahaha...the only way I can see her being a culprit is if it was an accident or self-defense. Like, she’d make a VERY boring culprit, probably immediately fessing up and apologizing a bunch.
Even with how strong she is, she could be taken down with the proper methods (poison, sneak attack, overpowered, other methods), and is very unlikely to kill if she can help it. Soooo I’d prefer victim.

Would you like to volunteer to have your character killed off?

No, thank you.

Would you be willing to have your character be a mole/killswitch for the Adjudicator?

I can’t see her ever betraying the others, given her personality and steadfastness. Betrayal’s wrong, guys :(

Character

Name: Nephenee
Canon: Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Canon point: A year after the end of RD.
Age: 21
History: SO firstly, here's the main plot for her games: Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn.
Now for Nephenee's part in the tale. (Also, underlined parts are headcanon, but it is just for fleshing out a few points, for the most part):

Her life has been fairly quiet a year later, aside from occasional brigand attacks and teaching others the ways of the lance. And then she was pulled here...

By the time Radiant Dawn rolls around, it’s apparent she has gained more confidence in herself, both on the battlefield -her lance impaling the enemy easily, though she gains no pleasure from killing- and off. It’s safe to say, though, that while she has come a long way from the quiet young lady she was in Path of Radiance, she is in no danger of over-confidence any time soon. She still hides her face often, whether with a helmet, or perhaps a hat. Perhaps from her social isolation, she's also innocent when it comes to some things.

Strong of will and brave (in battle motly), she refused to give in to despair during their imprisonment (though she was still quite frightened), and was ready to fight shortly after being rescued.

We know in-game that her mother is alone in raising the kids without her there, and this is because her father passed away around 8 years before Radiant Dawn of illness.

Bullet Points: There's a lot that go into my thought processes when playing Nephenee, but here's five key points.
  • Accent. She has a very strong country accent and if I have that voice in my head it makes it much easier to think of her responses. She still tries to lessen it sometimes. She also has a bit of a stutter that crops up sometimes, mostly when she's overwhelmed by something or embarrassed.
  • Shy, but strong, and stubborn: Nephenee's naturally a shy sort when it comes to new things and people in general, at least until she grows more, but that doesn't stop her from getting things that need to be done. She's been in two wars, helped raise her siblings, and worked the land and reaped its benefits. Even if she's afraid, she's not going to let that stop her from moving forward. This does also mean, though, that sometimes, breaking bad habits is harder for her to do...but she does try.
  • Lack of self-awareness/self-esteem: Despite being a strong, attractive, beautiful young woman with a lot of great qualities, and who helped save her homeland twice and helped take down a goddess, Nephenee has the self-esteem of a scared sheep. And that's technically better than it used to be (the first war helped her out, surprisingly). Most days it's not too bad, but she still hasn't learned to see herself in a completely positive light. She also has little self-awareness, aside from knowing her abilities as a farmer and soldier.
  • Kind: She's very even-tempered and patient, thanks to many years of helping raise her siblings, and believes in treating people well and giving second chances. If she actually gets testy, either she's gotten overwhelmed socially and needs a moment (and its far more likely for her to clam up than her to get angry about that), or you done screwed up bad.
  • Plants and lances and farm life: Having grown up in the country, Nephenee's wording and sayings tend to reflect that upbringing, or they reflect her job as a soldier. She'll speak of flanking and other military terminology just as easily as she'll talk about someone bein' madder than a wet hen and crops and such. Also lances are love lances are life.

Species and Modifiers: Blade, Wind attunement
Driver request: Zeke, please.
Arts: Her support arts will be Critical Up and Nullify Reaction.
Special:
  • Lv. 1 - Lance Mistral:Transform ether into cold, cutting winds, damaging the opponent and invigorating the Driver, increasing her Driver's speed slightly.
  • Lv. 2 - Sentinel's Charge: Charge the enemy with shield raised, damaging them & shielding her partner from harm, boosting defense.
  • Lv. 3 - Transfixing Whirlwind: Beautiful emerald wind ether surrounds and builds in the weapon, before the driver spins to release it into a whirlwind that slices and pierces opponents with sharp ether blows.
  • Lv. 4 - Impaling Storm: With power built up, her Driver and her pair together, using that build-up to summon high powered winds that propel them towards the opponent, where they strike with a strong flurry of blows as winds buffet the opponent and lower their ability of defend themselves well. If the opponent survives, they receive a Defense Down.
Other skills:
  • Nephenee is not only a soldier by trade, but a farmer and country girl, and so is well-versed in a lot of ranch/farming stuff. Gardening, sewing, and cooking/baking are counted in, but not limited to, this. She also has some skill in bartering that developed out of necessity.
  • That being said, the Sentinel class description does explicitly say they are expert lancers, and so she's freaking good at using polearms, mostly those of a European bent since that's what's in the Tellius games. She's also very good with a shield, and is strong enough to dual-wield them. (Incidentally, lances
  • Her hobbies include training, spearfishing, whittling, and anything to do with animals. She's pretty good at spearfishing, too!
XP Expenditure:
  • Unique Weapon for 10 xp. Her weapon will take the appearance of the Wishblade with a chain affixed to its end, and a Sentinel shield (a tower shield).
  • Special Characteristic for 10 xp: Heal herself and her Driver on Crit
